Venus La Universal

Who are we
Venus la Universal is a project with gods
names, where we would like to show the
importance of natural cycles in everything
around us and connections between them
and the Earth, between people and
vineyard, between vineyard and wine,
between wine and pleasure...
Sara Pérez (Mas Martinet) and René
Barbier (Clos Mogador), after forming
themselves in their Priorat wineries with
their respectively families, responsible for
the DOQ Priorat rebirth, they decided to
take the adventure with Venus la
Universal.

What do we do
Dido Blanc, Dido and Venus, they are
the three wines produce by us in a
totally organic way and with a total
respect to our land and our beliefs.
The idea is to exploit all earth’s riches
and varieties existing in Montsant
and to try to describe an area with its
wines. Sensual, feminine, intense and
full of richness wines. We take all
power Montsant has, thanks to its
local grape varieties: Grenache and
Carignan…

Viticulture
La Universal project is made by 5 vinegrower
families who belief, participate,
work and are commit themselves in
organic agriculture.
We fertilize our vineyards with organic
matter, we steppep it up with herbal tea
and we work to increase biodiversity
year by year in vineyards, looking for a
natural balance with natural
environment.

Ground
In La Universal, we work with vineyards
located in three big areas very different in
climate and ground.
Red Dido vineyards are located in Falset
area, on light degrade granite ground, called
“sauló”. These are hot and poor in organic
matter grounds that emphasize grape
ripeness and fruity flavors.
Venus vineyards are located between Marçà
and Guiamets, on clay-calcareous, deep and
fresh ground, with a slow, complex and
elegant ripeness. White Dido vineyards are
located on calcareous, stony, not very deep
grounds to improve intensity and aromatic
persistence...

Making process
Everything used inVenus la Universal
wine making process is a part from
our environment. Even yeast belongs
to our agro systems.
Using wild native yeasts, fermentation
and maceration is made slowly and at
the same time. In some Grenaches we
use grape stems and most grapes
ferment with a whole grain.
The ageing process try to be very
respectful with wine expression and
with every vintage, so we are not able
to find an equal vintage as for wood or
ageing time is concern.
